London Soul Choirs comprise of two independent choirs in Greenwich and Hither Green. Each with their own membership and identity but both rehearsing and performing the best in classic to modern soul music. From the original RnB singers of the 60's such as The Four Tops and Stevie Wonder right through to modern Soul from artists such as Prince and Beyonce, there is something for anyone who loves this genre of music.
The LSC's are adult (18+) community choirs open to all with the unified goal of singing, making friends and performing great music. We have some members who have never sung before, some who have previously studied music (as a child or adult), through to some who are involved in other semi-professional musical projects. These are definitely choirs for you no matter what your skill or experience level is. There is space for you to gradually build on your confidence in your own time, or to be challenged and take the limelight with solos if you want to.
The choirs come together for concerts so there is the benefit of rehearsing in a more intimate choir setting where you can really work on the music in detail, and then performing as part of a much larger choir to hear how it all comes together and feel the excitement of singing in a large group performance.
London Soul Choirs are directed by Internationally acclaimed Vocalist Abi Gilchrist (as heard on CBeebies 'Do You Know' and voice of Monkey Music) www.abigilchrist.co.uk and Musical Director / Composer Ross Power (Producer and MD of shows at London's Southbank Centre) www.rosspowermusic.com
There is also a sister Kent Soul Choirs for anyone wanting to join us in North Kent www.kentsoulchoirs.co.uk
Since 2010, London Soul Choirs have performed their great mix of old and new soul music at events across London and beyond. They are regularly asked to perform at the Southbank - headlining the 'Choirs in the Spotlight' feature in December 2016 at the Royal Festival Hall, and also performing live from the Southbank on BBC Radio 3's 'The Choir' programme.
Recent performance highlights for the LSC's include performing alongside Jocelyn Brown and Old Men Grooving at London's Troxy raising money for Cancer Research. Also recording at the famous Abbey Road studios in London as part of the CK Gospel choirs Christmas album.
LSC's have been part of several exciting theatre performances including 'Deblozay' at the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival and as part of 'The Events' at The Young Vic Theatre which which subsequently led to a sold out performance at the Southbank's Queen Elizabeth Hall. They also took part in the Shard's 'Sing it from the rooftop's' competition at the top of the Shard reaching the final.
The London Soul Choirs are also proud to perform at many local community events including the Christmas lights switch on in Greenwich, and Lewisham People's Day.
LSC's always perform an end of term concert when both choirs come together to share and perform what they have learned that term. Proceeds from some of these concerts go to a nominated charity. Since 2010 we are proud to have raised over '4000 for charities such as The Disasters Emergency Committee, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Tommy's and The British Heart Foundation.
London Soul Choirs are always interested in future performance opportunities so get in contact if you are planning an event email@example.com
